Gubernatorial candidate Andres Velasquez says "Not even Chavez can save Francisco Rangel Gomez"

VHeadline Venezuela News reports: "Not even Chavez can save (Governor) Rangel Gomez," says Accion Democratica (AD) gubernatorial candidate for Bolivar state, Andres Velasquez, and says that the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) is quoting "comedy" polling figures when they claim that Rangel Gomez has the edge in the run-up to local and regional elections, November 23.

"In their desperation they are trying to inflate without any conscience ... they are grabbing for anything and everything they can get during this election campaign ... everyone knows that Francisco Rangel Gomez has been the worst governor in the region's history."

  • Velasquez outbust comes after PSUV Caroni's Jose Ramon Lopez said that the party will get an overwhelming red (pro-Chavez) victory on NOvember 23 and that the current incumbent will be reelected with more than 400,000 votes ... with the first 100,000 before 7:00 a.m. on polling day!

"If they even think they can do that, they're going to have to fix the machines to crunch the numbers," Velasquez is quoted as saying in today's (Monday) editions of the regional newspaper El Diario de Guayana. "Anyone who knows anything about how the electoral process works will know that at 7:00 in the morning there will still many polling centers that have not yet opened their doors!"

"Rangel Gomez knows that to be the governor of Bolivar state," he will have to get votes from AD, Copei, UNT, USP, Causa Radical and elsewhere ... if he thinks he can do that, he has another think coming!"

"People are grabbing everything they can in this campaign ... but they will will punish Rangel Gomez on November 23 ... it will be such a defeat because neither Chavez nor any of the presents/bribes he is paying out, are going to save this governor who has the greatest rejection percentage any politician has ever had in the state Bolivar."

"A campaign for re-election is a sort of trial where the jury are the voters who focus on how the regional government has been managed/mismanaged. "On election day the citizens of Bolivar State will just have to make up their minds if Rangel Gomez has solved problem like deficient water supplies, soaring unemployment, rising insecurity, an electricity supply that is abyssmal ... if their answer to these questions is no, then the electorate will punish Rangel Gomez."

Meanwhile efforts continue to reach consensus with election hopeful Antonio Rojas Suarez, who claims 40% of the electorate. Even with continuing conflicts between the two, Velasquez says he is willing to continue efforts to achieve unity to ensure an overwhelming victory on November 23. Nevertheless, "when Rojas Suarez says he'll persist to the bitter end, he is throwing away any possibility of agreement."

Velasquez says the former military officer "does not have the slightest chance of victory" and that his insistence is inexplicable ... "it makes you question which side he is really on ... we recently proposed a 'sudden death' survey among our supporters ... we're talking about 36,662 electors at 15 polling stations and 69 booths that must be monitored by 207 witnesses, including principal and alternates, to ensure victory."

Volunteer Movement for Democracy coordinator Luis Medina says "Today, Venezuela requires us all to unite in support of saving democracy. Those who still think that there is no danger should review the latest laws which were passed against an overwhelming majority in last December's referendum ... that is why we have to give out full support to Andres Velasquez' winning formula and his commitment to rescue people who, each day, are sinking further into poverty and oblivion because of Rangel Gomez' misgovernment."
