Chavez wants to normalize ties with USA ... no matter who wins the election!

EFE News Service:
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez repeated his desire to normalize relations with the United States "whoever wins" the presidential election in November, according to a report issued by the Communications Ministry on Sunday.

The proposal was made by Chavez before the U.S. envoy to Venezuela, Patrick Duddy, at the end of the military parade on Saturday to commemorate the 197th anniversary of Venezuela’s independence, according to the official announcement.

Chavez said that he would like to return to the times when, despite ideological differences there was respect between the two governments and easier contact between U.S. diplomatic representatives and the Venezuelan government, and he cited the case of John Maisto, the U.S. ambassador to Venezuela from 1997 to 2000.

"We had breakfast, we talked. We have to return to that situation ... to fight against drug trafficking and international crime," Chavez said.

Regarding the upcoming U.S. presidential election, the Venezuelan leader said that the main thing is to resume the dialogue between the two governments.
