Venezuelan prosecutor investigates killing of journalist

Venezuelan prosecutors said Monday that they are investigating the killing of a television anchorman who apparently was stabbed to death. The body of journalist Javier Garcia was discovered at his Caracas apartment on Sunday and the attorney general's office said in a statement that an investigation of the slaying is under way. Garcia worked for Radio Caracas Television, or RCTV, which has been fiercely critical of President Hugo Chavez. 'The circumstances in which this unfortunate and violent event occurred are still unclear,' RCTV said in a statement. Gladys Zapiain, manager of institutional relations for RCTV, told the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists, or CPJ, it was too early to determine if Garcia's death was linked to his work at the TV station.
