Venezuela: Oligarchy Stalls Literacy Drive

Large power centers and oligarchies refusing to loose their privileges are the main enemies of literacy drives, said Venezuelan Education Minister Hector Navarro. Navarro voiced awareness that global imperial hegemony clash with projects to teach over 34 million illiterates in Latin America and near 774m world wide to read and write. He voiced certainty that (US President George W.) Bush and those in the world that represent aggression to the peoples are enemies of an education project for culture and liberation. The academician reminds the huge debt involved in projects to aid other countries eliminate illiteracy as part of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA). Minister Navarro promised to honor on-going collaboration between Caracas and Havana to help La Paz and Managua rid of illiteracy in 2008 and 2009. His promise involves a strong, ethical and humane debt with Haiti and a political will and resources to teach the locals and improve their living conditions, today below the poverty line. The called the above offence for Latin American revolutionaries, since Haiti is the cradle of regional independence. Navarro gave a master conference at the Ibero-American Literacy Congress in Cuba until June 12, on Venezuela’s experience in fighting the scourge.
