NGO criticizes Venezuela's elections council for delayed voting results -- Referenda, Hugo Chavez

A nongovernmental group is demanding that Venezuela's elections council release complete voting results from a referendum that President Hugo Chavez lost six months ago. Venezuelans rejected proposed reforms on Dec. 2 that would have allowed Chavez to run for re-election indefinitely by 51 percent to 49 percent, according to results released the same week. The council said 90 percent of the votes were counted and the trend was irreversible. Oscar Lucien of the group Active Citizenry said Tuesday that Venezuelan law requires the council to release complete results within 30 days of the vote.
