The National Elections Council (CNE) in Monagas State has dismissed the president of Maturin's electoral office for failing to do her duty. CNE state director, Maria Esther Urbina says the dismissal of Sonia Marcano is due to the fact that the latter could not keep up with the timetable and was placing obstacles in the development of the electoral process. According to Urbina, Marcano had informed the CNE that she had many problems because of her work schedule. Urbina adds that almost all political parties raised objections about Marcano's performance. The CNE, Urbina insists, must ensure the handover of credentials to political witnesses immediately.

According to CNE president, Tibisay Lucena, international observers in Venezuela will not only monitor the electoral process on Sunday, November 23 but will also exchange experiences in the automated voting process.
