European representatives bet on "hopeful" future for Venezuela

Politics Representatives of the Foundation for Insight and Social Studies (Faes) bet on Tuesday in Caracas for a 'different, hopeful' future in Venezuela after the local elections next November 23rd.

Deputy for People's Party (PP) Ignacio Astarloa and ex secretary general of the Spanish Government under the administration of José María Aznar, Javier Zarzalejos, took part on Monday and Tuesday in two forums hosted by sectors opposed to the government of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, as representatives of Faes, a foundation headed by Aznar, Efe reported.

The polls of November 23rd will 'provide a surely complicated outlook for Venezuela but, at the same time, a different, hopeful scenario facing the country's democratic evolution,' Zarzalejos told Efe. 'Opposition parties, despite enormous troubles, legal insecurity or clear deficiency with respect to judicial assurances for their rights, are succeeding in paving the way for a free democratic expression,' he added.
