Slobodan Kasic, who was sentenced in absentia in Croatia to 13 years in prison for smuggling 557 kilograms of cocaine in 1997, was arrested late last week in Venezuela, local media reported. He is currently being held in custody and is awaiting extradition to Croatia.
The Interpol issued an international arrest warrant for the boss of an international group of drug dealers. Kasic was arrested in a police operation in which ten drug bosses were apprehended, said Reverol Toress, head of the national drug trafficking prevention agency. According to him, the suspected were arrested on suspicion of having smuggled 43 tonnes of cocaine.
The drugs Kasic and his associates smuggled in Croatia was discovered in a storage terminal in Croatia’s Rijeka. It was worth 55 million German marks at the time and was intended for the West European market. Slobodan Kasic was an active water polo player. He made contact with the underground in Belgrade and started forging connections.
