Magnitude-4.9 earthquake struck of Venezuela's western Zulia state this morning

A magnitude-4.9 earthquake struck of Venezuela's western Zulia state this morning, without causing any major damage. The temblor hit at 3:29 a.m. local time today at a depth of 34.5 kilometers (21.4 miles), the U.S. Geological Survey said on its Web site. The quake was centered 90 kilometers north Valera, Venezuela, and 410 kilometers west of Caracas. While the earthquake was felt in most parts of Zulia state, there were no reports of major damage, said Gustavo Malave, president of Venezuela's Seismic Studies Foundation, in comments broadcast by state television.
