Venezuela's government will start using part of the dividends from CANTV to finance public healthcare

Venezuela's government will start using part of the dividends from Nacional de Telefonos de Venezuela, or CANTV, to finance public healthcare projects, President Hugo Chavez said Friday. The company's dividends reached 1 billion bolivars ($465 million) last year, the president said in a televised address. Chavez said the government would tap VEB100 million from the company's dividends to partly finance healthcare projects.

  1. Healthcare is important -- but profits from technology outfits should be mostly ploughed into technology infrastructure projects thruout the entire country, ASAP. Venezuela needs to develop itself industrially and technologically -- and as quickly as possible too.

Seems to me that the country could be massively building a digital communications network: one that would be resistant to things like cyberwarfare and EMP (electromagnetic pulse) assault, on top of being the glue which will bind together a highly-organized, decentralized and expanding socialist society.
