Carlos the Jackal...the terrorist earns his own "anti-James Bond" bio-pic

Carlos the Jackal was the most infamous terrorist of his day, a kidnapper/hijacker/bomb maker/murderer for hire who inspired fear and countless novelists as some sort of perfect villain.

Carlos the Jackal is to be the subject of a new French film starring Edgar Ramirez, who has a role in the new bio-pic Che. Ramirez will have the title role in Ilich: Story of Carlos, by French filmmaker Olivier Assayas. At one time, Javier Bardem was rumored to be considering this role.

Ilich Ramirez Sanchez was born in Venezuela, the son of a Marxist lawyer, dropped out of European colleges and joined the People's Front for the Liberation of Palestine. He supposedly had training in Cuba and Jordan.

The Jackal part of his nickname came from the Frederick Forsyth novel about an assassin, The Day of the Jackal, which was reportedly found among his belongings when the Venezuelan native was captured.
