Six thousand Venezuelan gold miners to receive much belated compensation payments on Thursday from President Hugo Chavez Frias

VHeadline Venezuela News reports: After more than two years of intense struggle, small-scale and artesanal miners in Venezuela's southeastern Bolivar State are to receive compensation payments of Bs.F 10,000 (US$4,657) each from President Hugo Chavez Frias himself during a ceremony scheduled be held under the auspices of the Basic Industries & Mining (Mibam) Ministry at the La Camorra gold mine in Sifontes municipality on Thursday (September 18).

In a report by Natalie Garcia in Monday's editions of Correo del Caroni, Raul Leoni township representative Alfredo Villanueva says the pay-out will reach more than six thousand and seventy-two miners, and that President Hugo Chavez has been specially invited to present some of the checks at the La Camorra mine which is part of Venezuela's first Socialist 50/50 joint venture the Russian Agapov group.

Villanueva says he is very happy and that the news of the pay-out on Thursday means that justice will be done for thousands of people who were left defrauded in the distribution of humanitarian aid from the Environment (MinAmb) Ministry under the administration of Jacqueline Farias.

The residents of the mining community of La Paragua had also been victims of the fight with the Ministry and there were more than one left ruined by the experience which led to the much-vaunted mining 'conversion' gaining a reputation more as a "conversion to misery."
