Oil and energy minister: "Venezuela will not call an extraordinary meeting of OPEC"

The Venezuelan Minister of Energy and Petroleum and president of the state-owned oil company Petróleos de Venezuela (Pdvsa), Rafael Ramírez, said on Wednesday in Beijing that Venezuela will not call, for the time being, an extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to discuss a further adjustment on their production levels.

"Not yet," said Ramírez, who is part of the delegation of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, who made his fifth official trip to China to strengthen cooperation, especially in the oil sector.

Following the reduction of oil production that was agreed by the oil organization earlier this month, some OPEC members, such as Venezuela, were considering to call an extraordinary session before the meeting to be held in December in Oran (Algeria), EFE reported.
