USA brutishness and arrogance with a blend of Venezuelan incompetence and corruption is an explosive mix

Carson writes: As Venezuelan enters its final week before crucial November 23 local and regional elections, it is only to be hoped that the ordinary, decent and hard-working people of Venezuela will send a strong message to President Hugo Chavez Frias that they will no longer tolerate a climate of mismanagement, corruption and internal sabotage that keynotes the trauma of his current administration.

While politically and militarily, Chavez will soldier on until 2012 when he must necessarily step aside from the presidency of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the country simply cannot wait a moment longer for him to take aboard the responsibilities he pledged in 1998 and swore to uphold when he was formally inaugurated as President in February 1999.

Recent revelations, however, show that whether or not he is simply a paratrooping Lt.-Colonel, a 4-Star Army General or the Commander-in-Chief of Venezuelan destinies, he will be forced to take pause on November 24 to reconnoiter and to take the nobler ambitions of his 'peaceful' Bolivarian Revolution back to the drawing board of his political rather than his military strategy.

Across the board, Venezuelans are growing weary of his violent rants, threats and cajoling. Under normal (?) circumstances it would be seen as unseemly for a President to be engaged in front-line skirmishes with an enemy that so plainly derides his very existence. A wiser General would abandon any thought of implementing an outright war on perceived opposing terror and rather wage a "War on Error" within his own governmental administration that has brought the Chavez administration to its knees.

For good or bad, Chavez' unseemly rhetoric is seen as that of the school-yard bully where, behind the blustering facade, there remains at least some remnants of the effusive zeal with which he first tackled the aftermath of octogenarian President Rafael Caldera's morally, ethically and financially bankrupted presidential disaster.

There was so much he COULD have achieved, but...

The Washington Beltway Bullies and a White House populated with Bush 1 and 2 clones baying for the blood of Saddam Hussein, and anyone and everyone else in the world who did not share their extreme Christian(?) fundamentalist beliefs of WASP supremacy and world dominance, were, of course, more than a trifle upset at the prospect of their cosy relationship with Caldera being replaced by a virile military man with crusader ambitions to right the wrongs of half a century and more of USA neo-colonialism in Venezuela.

Nevertheless, the United States' bulldozer-and-no-brains approach to diplomatic relations with Venezuela, indubitably matched by the crass ineptitudes of Venezuela's raft of quasi-diplomats and government officials urgently imported from the essentially unskilled ranks of Chavez' 'revolutionary' support base, was immediately another recipe for disaster ... especially with Bush's fixation on Iraqi oil and his Texan gunslinger ambitions to become ruler of the Universe.

Bush's failures are now a matter of historical record, with only a couple of months to go before its final pages are written and then best consigned to some dusty shelf in the most remote archives of the Smithsonian or Library of Congress. It's now more than obvious that the United States wants to wipe Bush 1 and 2 from their collective memories and to restore some semblance of peace and tranquility to their own national psyche.

For Venezuelans, however, the sickness in their society does NOT have panacea or such an immediate remedy as the exclusion of a painful chapter of national history to the garbage can. Venezuela is about to be placed in ICU! And ... if she survives through next Monday, she'll have to go through painful rape re-hab to recover from the ravages of an administration that's abused the body politic to within an inch of its existence.

A reader comments that there doesn't seem much hope! That there's only pessimism pollution the tropical air this week!

Not so! For if one knows anything about the true spirit of Venezuelans, it is to know that THEY know when they've had enough of the corruption and the exploitation they've been forced to suffer under these past few years. It's not so very different from the abuses and exploitations they had had to suffer under previous presidencies but, this time around, they have the key ... and President Hugo Chavez Frias had better know it!

There should be optimism in the air, since the Venezuelan people can now be relied upon to shape their own destinies via the ballot box, to tell their leader that they've had enough ... and the sooner he exorcises the saboteurs and traitors within the ranks of his own administration, the sooner he (with the skills he learned in military college), can do ultimate battle with the external saboteurs and traitors about which he rants so vehemently, day-in, day-out, in seeming oblivion to the growing cancer that will undoubtedly help him share the disgrace of his arch-nemesis George W. Bush into historical oblivion.
