Basic Industries & Mining (Mibam) turns a blind eye to 279 gold seekers who do not have environmental permits to mine!

VHeadline Venezuela News reports: Some three hundred gold miners at the Lo Increible sector between El Callao and Guasipati in southeastern Bolivar State, are still waiting for environmental permits from the Environment (MinAmb) Ministry and authorizations to be issued by the Basic Industries & Mining (Mibam) Ministry to begin work and to use explosives to develop the preliminary workings that have already been completed at the gold mine.

Quoted in a report by Isidro Casanova in today's issue of the local newspaper, El Diario del Guayana, mining cooperative 'Agrominera Lo Increible' technical representative, Rafael Marcano, says work at the mine has gone through a series of difficulties and that it has only been through the character and discipline of the local miners that work has advanced to its current level.

Marcano states that some 279 cooperative members do not have all the necessary permits, they are being allowed by Mibam to continue with their work without any objection following a recent census which shows that around 40 the co-op members are active, but face many difficulties to obtain required levels of input.

  • "We need to mine at Lo Increible, but we need permits to transport fuel, explosives etc and we must first have the main EIS (environmental impact study) from the Environment (MinAmb) people."

'Agrominera Lo Increible' members have just elected a new board and the co-op presidency is now in the hands of Cesar Gustavo Torrealba, replacing Antonio Navarro. A management report was approved and the assembly has called for the official situation to be monitored with all government agencies.

However, Marcano complains that there is little interest shown by some co-op operators who fail to pay the stipulated administration charge of 10% of gross output value as is required by law for the mining cooperative to function properly.
