Venezuela PSUV Discusses Statutes

Caracas, Feb 16 (Prensa Latina) The foundational congress of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) is making major organizational steps this weekend with the discussion of its statutes, essential to achieve unity of action. Sources from the organization, designed to gather over 20 progressive groups, indicated that after meeting with President Hugo Chavez, the over 1,600 delegates will commit to approving the regulations. The congress, which has been carried out on the weekends in several parts of the countries, began its current session Friday in the capital, with preparatory meetings by the speakers of the thematic tables, and a meeting between the support commission and Chavez. The PSUV draft statutes were analyzed in the forum, as well as mechanisms to elect the partisan leadership, the Venezuelan president, promoter of the PSUV, told Venezolana de Television channel. On March 2, it is expected to analyze the method for the selection of PSUV candidates to the elections of governors and mayors in November, which Chavez consider essential for the future process of change. The chief of State hopes to count on the new organization by the November elections, and PSUV is estimated to begin functioning officially with two or three million members, of the over five million candidates who are running for the membership.

  1. Already they're throwing people out of this new party. When I see that the grassroots really controls the PSUV -- and not the old 'bolivarian' crew -- then I'll believe it's what everyone is telling us it is.
