Surprise delay! Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez reschedules departure for Moscow -- no explanations!

VHeadline Venezuela News reports: For reasons that remain unexplained at this time, (8.00 a.m. Monday, Caracas), President Hugo Chavez' departure on a 2-day visit to Russia has been delayed. He was scheduled to arrive at Moscow's Vnukovo-2 airport at 4.50 p.m. Moscow time (12.50 GMT) today and Russian Foreign Ministry officials are at a loss to explain the delay.

Equally tongue-tied are officials at Venezuela's Foreign Ministry (MRE) in Caracas ... the only information available is that the arrival time has been cut by nearly fifteen hours.

Chavez was scheduled to meet with new Russian president Dmitri Medvedev to forge "a relationship of friendship and political trust" but it is not now known if that meeting will take place. Neither is there any information about Chavez' scheduled visit to Minsk on Wednesaday but it is understood that his meeting with Spain's King Juan Carlos is still on for Friday (July 25) before he returns to Caracas.
