Saying NO to gold mining projects will irrevocably cause great desolation and abandonment

VHeadline Venezuela News:
San Isidro (Las Claritas) parish council chairman Narciso Aquino Loaiza says both the Brisas del Cuyuni, Las Cristinas Caulin mines are "emblematic projects" that the Venezuelan government should prioritize to promote employment opportunities for the local population in southern Bolivar State and deal resolutely with increasing problems of "galloping unemployment."

In an interview with local newspaper Nueva Prensa de Guayana, Aquino Loaiza adds that "we must bring the Brisas del Cuyuni, Las Cristinas and Caulin to fruition because people are simply waiting for these projects to begin ... we need the jobs they will create to get rid of the mass unemployment that exists here ... there are parents who have to go out in the street every day to see if there's any announcement to kick start these projects. "

"I'm asking the President of the Republic and the Minister of Environment to show a little more interest in the projects since we has spent years waiting for these significant projects to launch. If this area is decreed to be a national park, these companies will disappear and the consequences would be devastating ... it took 15 years waiting for these projects to crystallize and, so far, we've not seen any advances."

Aquino Loaiza emphasizes that saying NO to the projects will irrevocably mean that many municipalities in southern Bolivar State will suffer great desolation and abandonment ... "future generations are counting on the jobs that would come with an opening up to mining ... especially here in San Isidro, where they would generate jobs for all those who are currently unemployed, and we might even have to bring in labor from outside the area. We must also equip small-scale and artesanal miners and help them to get loans from the government."
