Burglars from Venezuela nabbed in Penang

A South American gang, believed to be behind a spate of burglaries in Penang, was busted with the arrest of two men and a woman in Batu Feringghi here. The trio, all in their 30s, from Venezuela were parking their car at a hotel car park when a police team, which had been on their tail for some time, picked them up at about 2am on Wednesday. George Town OCPD Asst Comm Azam Abd Hamid said two cars rented in Kuala Lumpur three months ago were also recovered with their arrest, adding that the Venezuelans had only paid vehicles' rental for the first few days. 'Our investigations showed that they were involved in a RM100,000 burglary at a house in Tanjong Tokong on Sunday. A closed circuit television (CCTV) camera had recorded them in the act of breaking into the premises. 'The loot comprising cash and valuables are still missing and believed to have been passed to their accomplices who have left the state,” ACP Azam said, adding that the foreigners had been remanded pending investigations.
