New Mineral Collection Goes On Display

New Mineral Collection Goes On Display: "This man was Southern Californian Hubert de Monmonier. Friends called him Hubie. As the story goes, when Hubie was 9 years old, he found a box of minerals under his grandparents' porch in Pearce, Arizona and that sparked the lifelong love affair he cultivated with minerals. By the time de Monmonier died at age 87 last March, he had amassed a collection of 871 specimens...gold and platinum, quartz, amethyst, tourmaline, silver, and beryl. He collected pieces from all over the world, including a heavy gold nugget from Venezuela that just fits in the palm of Schlepp's hand. 'Some little guy was down in the pan, going through the mud and the dirt and the sand and this is what he came up with.'
